JUVENILE COURT

BOY SENT TO A TRAINING FARM

There was a sitting of the Juvenile Court this morning, when a lad 14£ years of age was charged on three informations with the theft of a revolver, two boxes of cartridges, £2 10s, a dress basket, and a bunch of keys, valued at £1. Senior Sergeant Till stated that on the evening of the 14th inst., in answer to a telephone communication, the police went to Mr Hartneli's residence in Argyle street, where they found the lad detained. Mr Hartnell found the defendant under" a bed in one of the rooms with a loaded revolver in his possession. The defendant admitted the charges, and said he had acted on impulse. The Magistrate (Mr Wyvern Wilson) committed the defendant to the Weraroa Training Farm. The Magistrate said it was a pity that there was •no probationary home in the district, which would serve a ■useful need.
