EGMONT WINTER MEETING.

SECOND DAY

The weather was splendid for the second day's racing, and'the attendance very large,. The sum put through-the totalisator wag a record, being £81,775, making a total for th c two days of £60,458, an increase of £26,616 over the two days of the winter meeting of 1917. The racing throughout the day was most interesting. The course was in good order, and good times were registered. Birkenvale and Munster each had a double win at the meeting. The largest dividend of the day was paid by Tirana in the Manaia Handicap The secretary (Mr V. B. Stratton) *had all arrangements well in hand, and the meeting was most successful in every way. Th© starter got his fields away well. The Hawera Citizens' Band again played a fine programme of music, and the catering was again first class. Following arc the details of the racing:— °

(Winner trained, by owner). - Omahu was first to' show out and led to the bend. Passing the stand the order was Munster, Otter, Omahu, Euripos. Going round the back Royal Park and Jiu Jitsu moved-up to the leaders. At .the home turn Jiu Jitslu made a groat bad, and just failed to get up to Munster, who won by a nose: two lengths between second aid third. Time, 2.45.

From a good start Huehman and Perfect Day were the first to show out. Hushman led past the stand from Perfect Day and Trombone. Coming round the back White Blaze and Arrowfield moved up. Tiranga and Bayberry were quickly off the mark, followed by White Ranger. At the bend Te Toa ran into second place, and Signorella was on terms with the leadens. In the run home Tiranga went to the front arid won by half a length from Cadet, who was a length in front of Signorelia. Time, 1.30 1-5.
