OPPOSITION TO THE PROPOSAL.

BY CABLE—PRES3 ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT

LONDON, May. 14

Australian and New Zealand military opinions are generally adverse to the Imperial Guards, fearing that the 3ien who fought at Gallipoli, Pozieres and Passchendaele will become mere ornamental soldiers. They consider the Dominions' park in Imperial battles should be commemorated in a far more practical manner. Mr Pearce, General Monash, and other leading Australians decline to make a statement, considering the matter one of policy on which the Government must decide if the scheme is officially adopted.

It is understood that the War Office and Colonial Office favor the formation of 'the Imperial Guards. The War Cabinet will consider the proposal after the Dominion Premiers have been consulted.
