HOCKEY CLUB. As the local club are sending down a team to compete at the Hawera tournament on June 3 next, the executive are very anxious that all members should turn up on Thursday afternoon next, at 2.30, so that a. thoroughly representative team may be selected. J The ladies' club should follow this example, as we understand they are aLso sending a team to Hawera. MUNICIPAL. PICTURES. On Wednesday next the first pro- j gramme supplied by the Paramount Coir pany, with whom the Town Board have, entered itito a contract for six months, will be screened. The star picture is "Down to Earth," featuring Douglas Fairbanks. On this occasion the Kaponga Orchestra, composed of eight instruments, will supply the music. A record house is anticipated. PRESENTATION.
A pleasing function was held at Mr James Stewart's residency Palmer road. Kaponga, on Thursday night, ■when the returned soldiers on Parkes' estate presented him with a fountain pen, Mrs Stewart with a tea set, and. the children with a. fooball. In making the presentation, Mr L. Jackson said that they could not allow Mr Stewart to leave the locality without giving him some little memento in return for the many kindnesses which he had shown to the soldiers. His advice and assistance had been given freely on many occasions, as they all knew. He, on behalf of his fellow returned soldiers, wished him every success on his new farm.
Mr Stewart suitably responded^ and a very pleasant evening was spent.
