The prospects of a settlement of the shipping trouble are hopeful. It is suggested that Lord Inchcape and Mr Hughes'could settle the matter in a ten minutes' conversation but Lord Inchcape has gone to the Mediterranean for his health. A deputation of Australian merchants met the representatives of the shipping conference. The, proceedings were confidential. : '

■ OTTAWA, March 14. The Western Canada Labor Conference has decided to thrown over the international affiliation of unions and adopt the one-big-union scheme. A referendum in other parts of Canada is necessary before the .change can, be adopted.—Reuter.
