NON-COMS. AT FISTICUFFS
An exciting fisticuff encounter on the morning of February 12 occurred at Oamaru railway ;■ station. The .protagonists, were two well-known members of the military police. Sergeant Lattimore and Corporal Jackson, the sergeant getting decidedly the worst of the bout. Both were in civilian dress when the fight took place. It is said that the affair arose .out of some complaint of "spying." Corporal Jackson is a returned soldier, and comes of » family of five soldiers. He served on Gallipoli, and is well known in Auckland as an athlete and boxer. He declares that he has been forced to take extreme measures in the interests of the- returned men, as a protest against the methods of the military police. He has demanded a courtmartial and the fullest public enquiry. Sergeant Lattimore, who has not seen active service, is a well-known member of the military police.
