PEACE CELEBRATIONS

THANKSGIVING SERVICE AT THE ANGLICAN CHURCH

Throughout the world the Anglican Church kept yeeterday as a day of thanksgiving for the deliverance of humanity from Prufisianism. At St. Mary's Church many oommunicants were present at the early services, and thsrewwe e large congregations at the morning and evening services. As a thankoffering for the coming of victory it was decided a few weeks ago to endeavor, to raise the sum of £1600 to be applied in paying off the amount owing on the school building. The response of the church people was such that, including yesterday's collections, £1233 is m hand. It is understood that promises wall make up th e balance of the money. Yesterday's services were bright, and appropriate psalms and hymns were used. At the evening service Jackson's Te Deum was sung, and the Hallelujah Chorus was played. The Rev. O. H. Grant Cowen conducted all the services, and in his sermons outlined many reasons why the people of the Empire ahould be thankful for the great deliverance.

It was announced during yesterday's services that a friend had generously offered to put an east window in the church as a war memorial; and that the parish memorial would be St. Mary's Hall, which had been built during the war, it being intended to permanently record on its walls the name of every soldier from the parochial district who had given his life, and possibly, also, the name of every one who had gone to the war.
