NO WONDER.
THAT GERMANY IS ALARMED
POSSIBLE RESULT OF BULGARIA'S
ACTION.
(Received Sep. 30, 11.50 a.m.) LONDON, Sep. 29. The Manchester Guardian says that presumably iJhe Allies will readily grant Bulgaria an armistice on terms, but cannot at this stage make a definitive peace,' as the necessary territorial adjustments must await a general European settlement. The Allies might guarantee Bulgaria as a territorial minimum her 1914 frontier, conditional on Bulgaria demobilising, handing over her artillery, arms and ammunition and allowing the Allies free use of Bulgarian territories for operations against Turkey vand Austria-Hun-gary, enabling the Allies to launch • a direct attack against Constantinople, which the Turks would be unable to withstand and ,would request an armistice. Austria-Hungary is not prepared, morally or materially, to defend a new front extending the whole length of the northern and western frontiers of Serbia, especially as the Slavs inhabiting the adjoining Austrian and Hungarian territories are in a state of semi-re-' volt. Austria-Hungary would soon collapse under the additional Strain. There should b e little wonder that Malinoff's action aroused intense emotion in Germany.—-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
