UNDERPAID TEACHERS.

WELLINGTON, Sep. 28. "Teachers are shockingly underpaid, " said Mr W. Foster, at the meeting of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Teachers' Institute. He Went on to Bay that at present the teaching profession was a blind alley. Those who entered this alley were very poorly paid. Mr *B. Keen said' the tramwaymen had^ gone slow and were going to gain an increase, and he was sure teachers could gain an increase by going slow. Miss P. Myers said she would be prepared to strike. If the schools were to close for a year, then the people would realise the position. Mr Foster said he had almost Been himself an organising secretary of—tk Teachers' Trade Union. .^" Mr A. McKenzie said that until Qi_> teachers got more money there would be the greatest difficulty in keeping the ranks full.
