THE OAMARU TRAGEDY,
OAMAHU, July 30. An inquest on $he, bgdy gf Onslow j John William Mayhew, whose body Was. found in the scrub on the south bank of the Kakanui river, and for who.s arrest a warrant had been issued foi* the murder of George Swan Burke at Geinmell's Crossing, was held this afternoon before the district coroner, Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M. After the medical testimony had been taken, and evidence of identification heard, the coroner said that deceased was evidently acting under a homicidal impulse, but apart from any inference which was to be drawn from the tragic events and unnatural nature of the acts, there was no definite evidence of mental alienation. He found that deceased committed suicide by shooting himself on or about April 14, 19!8.^
