OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT.
A FAMOUS NOVEL IN PICTURES.
«R. W. Chambers' fine story "Ann's Bridge" will be picturised at the Opera House to-night under the title of "The Fettered Woman." A carefully selected cast is headed by Alice Joyce and Webster Campbell, both capital artists. The story tells the struggles of the heroine with unscrupulous men who beset her after her father's estate has been ruined by his bad management. She suffers imprisonment for a crime of which she is innocent, and afterwards is shunned by everyone. The story follows the plot of the book closely, and is capitally produced. There is an excellent supporting programme, comprising Gaumorit Graphic, French scenes, a good educational and an amusing comic. Seats may be engaged at the theatre.
BARRIE MARSCHEL AND "THE KID FROM TIMARU."
TO-MORROW NIGHT AT THE OPERA HOUSE.
To-morrow evening, after a run of three weeks in five theatres at Auckland, the popular author-actor, Barrie Marschel, will make his appearance at the Opera House with "The Kid from Timaru," the picturised poem that has been drawing record houses everywhere. So popular as a poem did "The Kid from Timaru" become that it has been republished all over the British Empire and in several foreign languages, and has been recited on hundreds of stages with great success. Mr Marschel has now produced a film which visualises the incidents of the. story. Special permission was granted by the military authorities in Wellington for many of these. A Tiraaru boy enacts the role of the "Kid," whilst a New Zealand girl appears as the "Kid's" sweetheart. This is the first time that a picture drama made in New Zealand has been wholly undertaken by its own people. The author recites his clever verses as the film unWds, and this adds materially to the dramatic intensity of t"he subject. "The Kid from Timaru" will be supported by other good films, which in- i elude a splendid Blue Bird feature, "Eternal Lovo." There Will bo a special children's matinee on Wednesday afternoon at 3.15, when the prizes for the writing competitions will be presented to the winners by his Worship the Mayor.
