FORESTERS' LODGES.
WAR DIFFICULTIES EXPLAINED
TO MINISTER.
BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.
WELLINGTON, May 10. A deputation representing the High Court of New Zealand Foresters and the Wellington district of the same order, waited upon the Hon. Mr Myers, acting-Minister of Finance, for the purpose of explaining the difficulties of their societies in financing war liabilities.
The Minister, replying, congratulated the Society on its patriotic and selfsacrificing decision at the outbreak of war to meet the liability created by members going on active service. He recognised that, the war having lasted so long, many matters now coming up for consideration required to be looked at from a new viewpoint. He expressed the opinion that a' working arrangement between the Financial Assistance Board and the Registrar on behalf of the Societies might be possible, and lead to the establishment: of a practical scheme to deal with future liabilities of the Societies for these contributors.' Regarding past deficiencies', it iaight be practicable to evolve a satisfactory scheme on the lines suggested, and he recommended the Societies to furnish i the "Registrar with data that would enable the Minister for Friendly Societies to present the position to the Cabinet.
