ENEMY ATTACKS DEFEATED. BRITISH TAKE PRISONERS. WELLINGTON, April 1. The High. Commissioner reports from London under date March 29, 3.30 [ p.m. : Sir Douglas Haig reports: To-day the enemy ceased pressing northwards of the Somme. Southwards the enemy made heavy attacks. The German attacks yesterday astride the Searpe resulted in his defeat. LONDON, March 30. Sir Douglas Hafg reports: South of the Somme we have been pressed back from Mezieres. We counter-attacked and took a number of prisoners. Ensuing enemy attempts to capture Demuen broke down after sharp fighting.
