AMERICAN KEENNESS.
ENEMY ATTACK IN DIFFERENT DIRECTION PREDICTED.
(United Service.) LONDON, March 30. A special correspondent speaks of the keenness with which the Americans participate. An officer said that the whole American arniy bitterly regrets its comparatively futility to-day, and prays for a speeding up to enable it to take some real part in the war before many months. The correspondent adds: "It jis wise, in the meantime, to realise that nothing the American army can do for a considerable time will count for anything as things go. The Eng-j lish and French must do this job practically alone for some time. y "The serious question is whether Germany has still sufficient fresh divisions to overbear the dogged AngloFrench soldiers, thereby compelling grave decisions. No doubt the German leaders believe their superiority is suf- ! ficient, and they intend to force the' fighting and make it as continuous and exhaustive as they possibly can. Decisive fighting must be expected." The Daily Mail says the capture of ' Montdidier affects the defence of Amiens. French reserves are continually arriving. The situation is serious until Montdidier is recovered. The Germans have been beaten back from their present positions east of Amiens. The German press predicts a great new attack in a totally different direction. If true, the enemy will find tbe Allies ready to meet it in the same spirit.
