DETERMINATION TO WIN
REAFFIRMED
NEW YORK, March 28. Mr Hurley (chairman of the Shipping Board) in a speech, stated that America had 37 steel ship yards when she entered the war, but had 6ince established an additional 81. We have 5,160,000 tons of shipping under contract, of which 2,121,000 is completed. We have also 3,000,000 tons of requisitioned vessels, which we have placed at the Allies' service, and 112 GermanAustrian1 vessels totalling 800,000 tons. We have 730 wooden •; and steel ways, as compared with 219 in England. We have increased the number of shipworkers from 5000 to 236,000. -We will have shipbuilding machine within eight months which will be able to defeat Germany
The damage by the explosion at Jersey City is estimated at two million dollars.
Colonel Richecourt, acting chief of staff, >in March made a statement that the Allies are determined to see the great battle through to a finish. He declared that the Allies will win.
Colonel Roosevelt, addressing a Republican State Convention at Portland, Maine, said the Allies must beat Germany to her knees to,get a righteous and lasting peace.
