■ ■■■■•-• J I SACRED MUSIC RECITAL. On Wednesday evening a recital of sacred music was given by St. Mary's Choir, consisting of "The Story of the Cross" and portions of Maunders fine devotional cantata. "Olivet to Galvary." The former is a series Si hymns depicting the phases of the death of Jesus Christ, with effective interludes on the organ. The portions of the cantata taken were the opening and concluding and two of the intermediate choruses. One of the latter is the magnificent march depicting the journey to Calvary. AH the chorus work was sung by the choir, undeFthe choirmaster. Mr G. A. Burgess an a : spirit -of. devotion, . The.glorious effects | witnTwnich the work abounds wellI brought out, due attention being "paid to light and shade. Two of the fine recitatives and arias were sung by I Mrs Sunderland, and two by Miss Elsie Bernard:, while small recitatives were Bune by Messrs Burgess, Sutton and Smith. Mrs King nresided at the organ throughout, and effectively playeSJ the fine organ accompaniments. At the close of the service the hymn "Rock of Ages" was sung to a setting by Maunder. An attractive programme was present ed at the World's last evening, and -it was thoroughly enjoyed. The leading feature was "Souls Adrift," a powerful drama, starring Ethel Clayton and Milton Sills. The supporting films incluaed "The Girl and the Game," a serial story which continues to draw. The pro gramme will be repeated to-night. TO-NIGHT, At 8 o'clock.
