AMERICAN COMMENT.
PRESS FULL OF CONFIDENCE. TERRIFIC COUNTER-OFFENSIVE EXPECTED. SITUATION CANNOT BE REGARDED AS DESPERATE. UNTIL ALLIES' RESERVES HAVE PARTICIPATED. (Received March 28, 9.5 a.m.) WASHINGTON, March 27. The tone of the newspapers over the war situation is full of confidence. It is believed that the German wedge is menaced, and that when the German troops are exhausted a terrific'coun-ter-attack will be launched NEW YORK, March 27. The Tribune declares that the Ger- ! man advance does not equal their onrush at Verdun. The Allies' reserves have not yet been engaged, and the paper expects General Petain to strike quickly soon. Frank Sknonds, in an article in the New York Sun, says that within the r.ext 24 hours the Germans will win a decisive victory or be forced to halt. The British now hold high and advantageous ground, and the Germans' task in bringing up supplies is becoming increasingly difficult. It is absurd to regard the situation as desperate until the Allies' reserve army has participated.
