A STORMY MEETING.

TROUBLE IN NAPTER BOROUGH COUNCIL.

BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.

NAPIER. Feb. 7

A special meeting of the Napier Borough Coiu.ci! was held to-night to' consider charges brought by Napier tramwaymen against tho tramways manager, and it was decided to'hold an enquiry.

The meeting was a stormy one, and partly in committee. On resuming in open Council, the Mayor (Mr H. Hill) moved that Cr. A. McCarthy (Deputy Mayor) be suspended. Ci*. McCarthy called the Mayor "a d- old woman," and then apologised.

The Mayor refused to accept the apology.

After Cr. Mulvanah had moved that the police be sent for, as Cr. McCarthy refused to vacate his seat, a policeman was sent for. and Cr. McCarthy dared the constable to remove him. *

The constable, however, assisted McCarthy from his chair.

The .latter took the constables-numb-er, and threatened proceedings against both constable and council. Then he left the room, and the meeting terminated shortly after.
