RETURNED SOLDIERS' CLUB.

• AN ENJOYABLE EVENING. A very enjoyable evening was spent on Wednesday, December "19., at the ■ 'Soldiers' Club, among members and j their gentlemen friends. There was a : large number of returned men present. i including Major Wallingford, well | known to all Main Body boys. The Major had quite an interesting little chat to some of the old brigade in connection wjth the hard old days on the Peninsula, The evening's entertain- . ment .took the form of many evenings spent by our boys when in billets, "anywhere in France." Many rousing songs and choruses were sung, in 1 which several returned men proved they could still sing as of yore. Sunot-. which was supplied by the ladies' committee, was much appreciated. The National Anthem closed a most enjoyable evening. I The secretary gratefully acknowledges the sum of £8 14s from the! ! Manaia Patriotic and Red Cross So- j ciety, £5 from the Dardanelles patri-l I otic stall. Christmas cake for club from' Mr Brian Lysaght also books and magazines from Mr s Kimbell, Mrs1 Preece and Mrs King. The afternoon tea hostesses for December were: Mes-' dames Barton, Holder, Williams Hawken, Symes, Corry, Good, Pacey,'Frisk Bregmen. Johnstone, Harrow Arthur' i : Dolan, Campbell, Burgess Brett-man, Athusen McL'Dowie, and Misses Gower, Dolan, Corry, Larcom, York and Syme. i
