FAREWELL TO PRIVATE MAINDONALD. In the Mahoe Hall on New Year's Eve a very "successful social was held
in honor of Private "Bob" . Maindonald, who was on final leave. The. hall I was packed with a very enthusiastic I audience. Items were given by Mrs * Garnonsway and Messrs Coates and | Cumberworth, also by Mr Bidwell. A j humorous recitation, "Mr Livinsky at the Wedding,' 5 was also given by a visitor from Palmerston North. On behalf of the residents of the district, Mr H. Eise made, the presentation of a wnstlfit _/watch, Private Maindonald suitably replying. Supper was provided and handed around by the ladies. The singing of -"Old Lang Syne" was | the order to "celebrate the ending of the old year, and the beginning of the new. '/Dancing- was then indulged in until 2 , a.m., and after the singing -of "For j He's a Jolly. Good Fellow" and the ' National Anthem, the evening's enjoyment successfully concluded. The duties of M.C. were ably performed by Mr Hector Mellow. Miss Gardner, of Manaia, supplied the music.
