of a 1,000,000,000 dollars of war loans was mainly responsible. Many British commercial securities appreciated large--Ily in 1917, especially breweries, canals, and docks, also shipping, insurance, and banks. British Indian funds moved downwards. Colonial stocks slightly improved.
