INCREASING

POSITIONS AT MONTE TOMBA

AMSTERDAM, Dee. 30

The Vossische Zeitung's war correspondent says the activity of the Italians is increasing daily, there being increasing counter-attacks by fresh troops. All symptoms of demoralisation have entirely disappeared.

Italian official: The enemy re-bomb-ed Padua, killing three and wounding three. Two hospitals were damaged.

LONDON, Dec. 31

Italian official: After intense artillerying on the Monte Tomba sector the French stormed positions between Osteriad, Monte Fenera, and Maranzine firmly, and toek prisoners 44 officers and 1348 men. ~ Sixty machineguns, seven cannon, and other material were captured. English and Italian batteries co-operated.

: The enemy last night, for the third time, bombed Padua. Scores of bombs were dropped. Artistic monuments severely suffered. The cathedral facade was blown down.

" A German wireless report states: There have been violent artillery and mine-firing duels on the Monte Tomba ridge, where the French, attacked and penetrated parts of the position.

An Austrian, official adds that counter measures at Monte Tomba are being prepared.
