MANGATOKI.
(From Our Own Correspondent SCHOOL CONCERT.
There was a crowded hall on the ocSTi Hnfh ""T** ¥ d in th« Mangatoki Hall m aid of the school funds All available seats were occupied Lesides a large number who had to stand. Mr Astbnry, chairman of the School Cb£ S+f^^l^' and stated th *t he regretted the absence of Rev N H Par>akakura and Mr G. Lyall, on account^ influenza and colds. But he was sure the audience would be delighted with *he Programme, and there is not a doubt they were. Almost every ?tem wa S encored. The recitations o7a h$ If summ<^ Master Irwin, of edtetff 1? Wdl r-eud6r^ and snowtfJo,. S b°y P? ssess ed unusual elocuand rL^WerS; JVJ? Ssm Silver/Andrews, and Gardiner, m the comic element nut on some really fine turns. In fTct eve?y performer was well received, and merited their recalls. The programme consisted of songs by MesdamS H^minl way and Beesley and Misses CoaS^d SvT'^f P 1'8 Silver, Audi mis, and Gardiner; and Master Buckendge sang one of the latest patriotic songs, stable for his age, and Landed with a recitation. Mesdames Beesley and Buekendge, and Misses Cooper^ Astbnury and Gardiner acted as accomi panics. M«r Parrott, in his wellknown and popular style, gave several recitations. Besides the recitations by Master Irwin, the school children gave two items, the first a recitation by six little gTris, trained by Miss McGregor, and the second a wand drill and march by ten senior girls. The wands were decorated with the patriotic colors, red, white, and blue, with pleasing effect Misses Astbury and Lording effectively played the overture, and also a pianoforte duet.
At T he conclusion of the concert, the chairman thanked the audience for their attendance, and asked them to show their appreciation of the performera by giving a hearty vote of thanks itKs was heartily responded to. Before their departure they were entertained at supper, while refreshments were handed round The hall was then cleared, for dancing, Miss Gardiner presiding at *J e Plano- Mangatoki is fortunate in so of feu obtaining the services of this joung mcly, whose music is so popular.
