The following changes in the Hawera postal staff are announced: Mr S. G. Daniel, postmaster, Rangiora, lias been promoted to postmaster. Hawera. Miss M. Elias, of Palmerston North, has been promoted to supervisor in the local Telephone Exchange. Mr H. C. G. Hearn, of the local postal staff, has joined the Expeditionary Forces-. Prior to his departure he was presented, on behalf of tho staff, with a wristlet watch. Mr Mear, of Ractihi. succeeds Mr Hearn.

The speaker at the meeting of the Protestant Political Association in Hawera on Thursday evening at the Opera House will be the Rev! G. KnowlesSmith, of Wellington. It is the intent/on to form a branch in Hawera. The secretary advises that applications for tickets are coming in freely, and that there is likely to be a crowded house. Rev. Howard Elliott has been prevented from being present. Rev. G. KnowlesSmith is editor of The Nation, and a member of the Dominion 'Executive of the P.P.A., and is therefore well qualified to speak on the subject of the Association.
