Mrs John Vile, senr., aged 100 years, who arrived in Wellington by the ship Oliver Lang in 1856, died at P&hiafaia yesterday.
Private W. J. Blackler, whose name appeared among the wounded in a recent casualty list, was a member of the Haw era Magistrate's Court staff a few years ago.
Advice has been received that Private Leslie R. Hamilton, of Manutahi, who was reported as wounded in the last casualty lists, is suffering from gunshot wound in the shoulder and neck, and his case has been classed as "severe."
The Wellington Times reports that amongst a list of recipients of the military medal is Lance-Corporal Gilbert Hay ton. He is the youngest brother of Air E. C. Hay ton, of Hawera, and went .away with the Auckland Battalion of the Sixths. He saw service in Gallipoli, and also in France.
Mrs Coad, Te Roti, received the following telegram from the Base Records Office, Wellington: Gable received this day reports Private E. R. Coadi admitted to hospital, France. October sth, gunshot wound right thigh.
A casualty list issued on Friday included the following:—Missing: L. G. Gribble (Mrs J. Gribble, Hawera, mother), A. S. Wasley (W. Wasley, Hawera, uncle). Previously reported wounded, now reported not wounded: N. C. Lord (G. P. Lord, Normanby, father). Wounded: Lieut. Edmund L. Malone (Mrs M. H. Malone, England, wife), T. G. Carter (C. Carter, New Plymouth, father). A hospital progress report included the following: Still dangerously ill: F. O. Harvey (New Plymouth). Seriously ill: F. H. Pennington (Eltham), G. S. Strack (Eltham).
