Mrs Buick wife oy Mr D. Buick, to j' jled at laln ierston North on Wednesday, at the age of 65 years. Sergt. George Syrne, whose death, in action is reported in to-day's casualty list, was a grandson of Mr George byme, sen., of Hawera. Sergt. Syme who was attached to the artillery a few months ago received the Distinguished Conduct Medal for an act of great gallantry in rescuing wounded comrades from a burning gunpit.

Mr V. B. Stratton, secretary of th© Jligmont Racing Club, who underwent a serious operation in May last, is making excellent progress towards recovery. He expects to return to Hawera in September.
