I Hon. J. D. Ormond considered tho time had come when New Zealand should decide whether it could keep up the pvesent large reinforcements. If itwere necessary to call on the Second Division, better provision should be made for the dependents of members \ thereof. After criticising the Govern- I ment, he said an appeal should be made to» the paople erf the country, and a Government elected that would be responsible to* the people. Sir W. Hall-Jones supported th& Hon. Mr Ormond's views, and advocated that an election should he- held.. Hon. W. Earnshaw said an election was a secondary matter to that eff winning: -Sic warHon. Mr Barr pomted suit that in many instances single men made equally j as great,, sacrifices as married men would have to make.
