THOSE GERMAN TIGERS.
MOHAMMEDAN OPINION.
Everyone remembers the visit of the German Emperor to Palestine, and his protestations that he was the only true friend of the Mohammedan world. An Arabic newspaper, published in Algiers, recently printed a letter written by a Moslem notable of Dar-es-Salaam to an Arab merchant of Tripoli, which shows what the Imperial orotestations are worth. The following are typical passages : — Those German tigers who were wont to devour the Moslems here have been, hunted away by the victorious British forces, who have captured Dar-es-Salaam. God having delivered us from their claws, we are filled with, gladness reioicing as men who come forth from a pn^on of misery, where they have languished long. Truly, my pen is powerless to describe all the sufferings endured hy tne Moslems of Dar-es-Sal&am under brutal German rule. "We have been like abject slaves, and worse; assuredly the very dogs in civilised lands are better treated than the German's treated us. They are a nation who hate Islam with an implacable hatred, and hold it in utter detestation. The London Times, in reprinting thialetter, reminds us that among, the documents found by General Smuts at Mosbi a year ago w£s a copy of a circular signed by Dr Sehnee, the Governor of German East Africa, and sent to all military stations some months before the war, instructing the recipients to report on measures to counteract the spread of Islam. The circular went on to say: "Do you consider it possible to make a regulation prohibiting Islam altogether? . . . The encouragement of 7)ig-breeding among the natives is recommended by experts as an effective means of stopping the spread of Islam." Contrast this brutal treatment with the scrupulous respect shown by Great Britain to the religious principles of all races within the British Empire.
