ARARATA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The second of the series of social evenings arranged in aid of the Ararata Ladies' Red Cross Fund was held on Thursday evening last, at the residence of Mr and Mrs Dawson, Turuturu road. Early in the evening friends of the cause made their way to the rendezvous—some on foot, some on horseback and motor cycles, some in gigs, drays and motor cars, and soon the rooms of the house of* the genial host and hostess were filled with a merry crowd of young and old. The seniors played cards, while the juniors passed the time with music, fishing for prizes, and nail driving competitions, or danced to the accompaniment of the piano. Re>freßhments were provided by the host and hostess, and a most enjoy aible time was spent by all. The .effort resulted in the addition of about £7 to the funds. It was a matter of great satisfaction to , all present to learn that Mr and Mrs Dawson's two daughters, who were the sufferers from the motor accident earlier in the week, were very much improved, and the reports of their condition were of a favorable character.
