CHARGES AGAINST PKISSN ESCAPEE.

HAMILTON, May 29. At the Magistrate's Court to-day a Waikereia prison escapee named Robert jasper Crago, who made a sensational attack on Etlward Henry Peebles, a Hamilton taxi driver, on tbhe HamiltonCambridge road on the 18th instant, by passing a cord round his neck and rendering him unconscious, was arraigned on three charges as follows: —Assaulting Edward Henry Peebles, causing him actuaol bodily harm; theft of a mTycl© and suit of clothes, the property of Clarence Kelly; and thait being a prisoner in legal custody he did escape from confinement before his term had expired. Accused pleaded guilty to the charge of theft, and was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence wEen called upon. On the other charge he pleaded not guilty and elected to t>e tried by a jury, and was committed for trial at Hamilton on June sth.
