SOUTH FLOODS.
RAILWAY TRAFFIC DISORGANISED

__ DUNEDIN, May 28. Tvo trains left for stations south of Mosgiel to-day, the railway line in different parts of the Taierf being under water. There was also water on the line between Lovell's Flat and Stirling, and on the Outram branch. Traffic was suspended on the Otago Central line. A slip near Salisbury delayed the train, which then proceeded to Hindon. A bad slip was encountered at Deep Stream, passengers to and from Clyde having to be transferred. It is reported that the Silverstream railway bridge, near Wingatui, is out of alignment. Between Lawrence and Milton the train was stuck up by a w^sh-out. On the Catlins Branch line traffic was also disorganised. The police received word that three families .in the flooded area on Taieri plain were in danger, and Alexander Douglas was reported to be missing. GORE, May 28. Gore was visited by another flood this morning, fortunately in broad daylight. The river was watched all night, and after 4 a.m. the alarm sirens sounded. Between 4 and 7 the Mataura river ,already high, rose nearly 3ft. were warned and removed fheir goods to the second floor. Offices and shops were inundated to a depth of 2ft. The damage is trifling compared with what occurred four years ago. The light and power were cut off. The water in town is stationary at the time of wiring (7.5 p.m.). Up-country reports indicate that the river is falling rapidly.
