WAVE OF INDIGNATION THROUGHOUT COUNTRY.
(Received Oct. 11. 9.5 a.m.)
WASHINGTON, Oct. 10. Simultaneously with the announcement that the State Department considers that all Germany's promises to the United States regarding submarine warfare have, not been broken as yet, the British steamer Strathdene was attacked without warning.. The Strathdene's captain, Wilson, is positive that his vessel was not warned.
The 'owners of the Bloomersdik are amazed at her sinking, as she did not *ea>rry contraband and flew the Dutch flag.
The British Embassy is silent. Mr Lansing has gone to meet President Wilson to confar regarding the situation.
Notwithstanding the official reticence there is a wave of indignation and anger throughout America about the raids. The population of Newport, where the lescued people were brought, was stirred to a remarkable extent by the submarine's wanton attacks.
There is no news of the present location of the submarines. The captain of the Stephano insists that he saw a large vess«l alongside the submarine, which he is certain was a supply ship.
