LONDON, June 9. At the luncheon given by the Imperial Council of Commerce, Mr W. ivi. Hughes, responding to tne toast of "Tne liuests," said that the first meeting of the fleets in anything like battle array had dissolved the doubts about future conflicts. Referring to his visit to France, although the position Avas incomparably better than it was a j^ear ago, there was still a lack of power to break down the German defence. The end is not near, and the Allies cannot hold on for ever. What must be done must be done quickly. The needs are machinery and munitions, which must immediately be supplied. We cannot be victorious unless we develop every resource and exert every effort in our power. Ttie Imperial Chambers of Commerce Council passed a resolution urging an early agreement between the Home Government and the Dominions to secure a single income tax within the Empire, wherever earned. Tiie Count and Countess Plunkett have been released, but are ordered to leave Dublin on Saturday. j
