+ Quite a gloom was cast over the town yesterday morning when the news came -through that the Hampsnire r with Lord Kitchener and his, staff* had been sunk and all hands, lost .blags were flown half-mast from all the public buildings. Corporal M. B. O'Grady, who has served twelve years with the Royal Artillery at Home, and with the Mohomand Field Force in India> has offered his services and has been accepted for the artillery. He leavesManaia to-day for Trentham to join the next reinforcements. Corporal O'Grady has had a wide experience^, and took part in the Thibet Expedition. He has also served twelve months with the Royal Canadian N,a?gr and under three British sovereignsHe has three brothers at the. front in: France. The townspeople congratulate him on his patriotic spirit, and wish him all sorts of good; luck; and? a safe return.
