AT ONE WITH THE ALLIES.
FIGHTING A WINNING FIGHT
FOR ETERNAL BENEFIT OF
HUMANITY
CANNOT STOP NOR WITHDRAW
(Received Feb. 24, 10.45 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 23. Mr Harold Begbie publishes an fccount of a special interview vith M. SazanofE (Russian Foreign Minister) in the Daily Chronicle. He states that M. Sazanoff said he thought the war might be followed by some measure cf disarmament. "For forty years," he continued, "the Germans had been preparing for war. They sat on our frontier, 'with a stone in their bosom' as the Russian proverb says, and they had been waiting to throw the stone. "There is no truth whatever in the statement that Russia is dissatisfied with Britain's efforts. We trust you absolutely and know that while England holds the sea Germany cannot win the war. It is my supreme political conviction that England's mastery of the sea -has been the greatest factor in the war. Our purposse is to destroy the greatest danger that has ever menaced the human race, and we shall fight as one, and will not cease fighting until this menace has been destroyed, We cannot rest with a victory which would permit the menace to lift lip its head—our victory must be absolute, and we must be free to live without continual war. England, France, and Russia are now responsible for the future of Europe and the future civilisation arid fate of the world.
"The destruction of Prussianism may take a long time, but we are prepared for that, and after the war our recovery will be quick and sound. The longer the war lasts fine more complete will be the financial riiin of Germany.
'Russia feels with England that the Allies are fighting a winning fight for the eternal benefit of humanity. We cannot stop and cannot withdraw."
M. Sazanoff expressed the deepest admiration of the moral grandeur of Sir E. Grey, whilst Mr Lloyd George, he said, had become the hero of the Russian nation.
