NATIONAL SERVICE LEAGUE

This League has its headquarters at Masterton. Chief Justice Sir Robert Stout is its president, Mr F. Norris its organiser, Mr A. Williams its secretary, and Mr M. Caselberg its treasurer. Its object is | To help every man who answers the Empire's call. The men who have enlisted and are enlisting deserve preference in the years to come. Do youi li.ttle bit' for them. They are doing theirs for you. Sign the pledge below. Make your friends sign, and pay for the children to join. Let us show the fighting men that they have many friends. Pledge.—l promise to help to obtain work, in their work, business or profession; to do kind actions, say kind words, to entertain and do all I possibly can to help in business and social life every man who answers the Empire's call. The men will be known by wearing the country's badge of honor. I also promisee to give preference to the manufactured goods of New Zealand and the British Empire. And follow out to the best of my ability the rules of the N S.L. This promise is to hold good for four years. Rules.—Members are not to pay for any liquor to a returned soldier at a public bar. If a returned soldier is in need of money, a member is to take him to the Patriotic Socitcy of the district. Members are to invite returned soldiers to social gatherings, picnics, sports, boating, shooting, or any healthy outing. More especially to invite them to their own homes, giving them a place of honor at all times. Members are to patronise businesses of disabled soldiers. Tnese will be known by a special card displayed in their window, and will read as follows: 1 his business is under the patronage of the N.S.L. Members are asked not to talk war with returned soldiers. Many do not v ish to recall their experience. Leave war talk alone unless the men start it. A special badge worded "Fighting Men First," will" be issued to all members who have signed the above pledge. Returned soldiers, seeing this badge in i your coat or dress, will know you have promised to be their friend for four years. Sign now! Not to-morrow. Our boys did not wait for your promise before enlisting. They trusted you. Annual subsreiptiou ls. Hon. agents (to obtain promises and money on our behalf) may be any newspaper proprietor or editor, college headmasters or their assistants, schoolmasters, schoolmistresses, civil servants. Boy Scout leaders and their Boy Scouts, heads and officers of any religious body, Friendly Society, union, or club, temperance" or social lodges, tradesmen, employers of labor, and any person can "obtain signature and money from his friends, but any private person who is willing to canvass strangers for us must obtain written permission, on application, and give a reference.
