OPERATIONS IN BTJKOWINA
TREMENDOUS BOMBARDMENT AT CZERNOWITZ.
FURTHER RUSSIAN SUCCESS REPORTED.
PETROGRAD, Jan. 9. The Russians' in am attack at Czernowitz was preceded by. a bombardment. Four hundred guns for fifty hours rained shells continuously on the town, and the infantry charge followed immediately. "
The 'Czar has taken tip hia headquarters in the vicinity.
A, communique reports: The enemy drove us out of Czartorysk, but we counter-attacked and recaptured the town, which we have held fircnlv since. Osir troops in the middle Strypa region captured sections of the enemy's position, taking over a thousand prisoners. .
Desperate enemy counter-attacks with large forces,. north-east of Czernowita, were all repulsed with enoTmous enemy losses.
