THE LATE FIREMAN RAUCH

HAWERA BOARD'S CONDOLENCE.

At to-day's quarterly sitting of the Hawera Fire Board Mr F. P. Cor kill said he had noticed that the Brigade's membership was being depleted through members having volunteered for the front, and while this was' a matter for Regret so far as the Fire Board was concerned, it was, on the basis of citizenship, a matter for pride that these men were serving their country. In that connection, however, he was sorry to see that one of their firemen, Fireman W. Rauch, had lost his life while fighting for his country. He thought the Board should take official notice of this, and he moved: "That this Board tenders to the relatives of the late. Fireman W. Rauch its sincere sympathy in their bereavement, and places on record its appreciation of his services as a member of the Hawera Volunteer Fire Brigade, and its admiration of the patriotism which has unhappily resulted in his death while serving our King and country." v - Mr Bone seconded the motion, which was carried in silence, the members standing. •
