TWO STEAMERS SUNK

LIQUOR RESTRICTIONS IN

LONDON

A D.S.O. AWARD

LONDON, Sept. 26. The British steamers Wiluro an' Lesione have been sunk. Nineteen of the latter's crew are missing.

Lord D'Abernon, presiding at a conference of chief constables, on the question of liquor control in various areas, stated that prosecutions for drunkenness had dropped 40 per cent, since the application of the Act. There had been a „ gratifying increase in sobriety amongst seamen and firemen, and a marked improvement in the ship-yard and munition workers' time-keeping.

An Order-in-Council has been gazetted applying the liquor control to London, and including the city area.

Naval-Lieutenant Louis Hamilton has been awarded the Distinguished Service Order for transporting a naval gun 160 miles up the Niger River, 480 miles up the Banue River, and then sixty miles overland, largely contributing to the surrender of Garna.

It is unofficially reported that LanceCorporal Ommundsen, the champion rifleman, has been killed in action in Flanders. He won tbs Kingfs Prize in 1901.
