POLICE COURT, THURSDAY. (Before Mr E. Parrott, J.P.) George P. Johnson was convicted and lined os for drunkenness. John Jones was convicted on a charge of drunkenness, but no fine was imposed The same offender was charged, with having no visible lawful means of support. Constable Townsend stated that the accused had been loafing about town for about a week sponging for drink and food and sleeping in a stable. The accused had previous convictions against him. He was sentenced to one month's imprisonment in New Plymouth gaol. QUEEN CARNIVAL. The United Friendly Societies' social and dance in aid of their carnival queen, held last night, was well attended, and was in every way a great success. The music was supplied by Mr Coleman, and Mr Naylor acted asM.C. Extras were played by Mr Dowden.
