COALITION ON FRUIT.
ALL PARTIES IN AGREEMENT
NO 'APPLE OF DISCORD."
THere is no Opposition Party in Parliament on the subject of fruit-growing • there is emphatically a National Minisl try tor the encouragement of this industry, which spells wealth and health and happiness for many orchardists and a'great benefit to the general public by improving the quality and, consequence of a better distribution through co-operative effort, lowering the price of that "apple a day which keeps the doctor away," and by the export trade, which is increasing remarkably By tlie Fruit Preserving Industry Act of 1914 Parliament authorised the spending of £25,000 a year to assist in the provision of cool'stores and preserving works. The Hansard reports of speeches on the Bill give these words of the leaders: — The Right Hon. W". F. Massey: "1 am firmly of the opinion that it is our duty to do everything we possibly can to encourage and assist the fruit-grow-ing industry. . . I was particularly impressed with what I saw in the Moutere (Tasman) district of Nelson Province, where the fruit-growers seem to know exactly what they are doing, and there seems to be no possibility of making a mistake." Sir Joseph Ward: "There is no doubt that enormous profits are being made by men who are successfully growing fruit and engaging in its exportation. . . In the Nelson district it is a very great pleasure for any man to go through the territory and see what is being done by men who. are making a living-^-and a good deal to spare—off areas of ten to twelve acres:" ■'< /■■'':;;,-,>;■ ■•-■^, ~->;'.,,•" ''■ Other legislators on both sides 9poke similarly; the party lines vanished in the golden orchards. Why not have a section in the best part of Nelson Pro-vince—-one of the few remaining pieces of Tasman? The.Tasinan Orchards Co., Nelson, will send a free book giving unquestionable facts and figures, supported by photographic proof, to show how. easily and pleasantly a man can woo find win fortune on the sunny lands of Tasman. 1-
