GERMAN ROYALTIES.

DISCREDITABLE BOOTY.

An Australian paper publishes a German royalty story which helps to answer the often-asked question, what has become of the beautiful possessions of many wealr.hy Belgian people? The Debats —always admirably informed —published the statement of an irremediable! breach between the Crown Prince of! Germany and his wife. The Auto, a j French sporting paper, gives a versiono! of the motives of the quarrel which is j all to the honor of the Crown Princess, j Six weeks after the outbreak of war — ; early in September, that is—the Crown j Princess received from her husband a surprise present in the form of two! large furniture vans crammed with .looted objets dart. The Crown Prin- i *«©BS vnG io •*• Russian, oil llfr mother's feide, and is a woman of ediicatioii and \ delicacy, was frankly disgusted by the,i gift, which she considered an outrage. She refused to take in the, booty, and ran to her mother-in-law, the Empress, to complain. The Empress took her part, and expressed her indignation to ncr husband. The Kaiser merely laughed, and said that he thought his daughter-in-law rather overdid he v ecruples. But the Kaiserin had the courage to stand up to her Imperial consort, and at last gained his grudging consent that the thefts of the Crown Prince should not be forced on the Crown Princess. The booty was accordingly divided up among different members of the Kaiser's suite. When, long weeks after, the Crown Prince returned to Berlin there was a terrible scene between him and his wife. The gulf that separates the royal couple has widened since then owing to the flagrant and insolently paraded infidelities •of the heir of the German Throne.
