July 23. 1 A White Paper states that Sir E. 15 rev forwarded Mr Page the complaints of prisoners at Baistrup camp, in Germany that they were fed principally on beetroot, kohl rabi and meat ;from diseased animals. Air Gerard reported that he was unable to visit Baistrup, but the commandant wrote that the rations had previously been served binder contract, but had since been •altered and increased. Mr Gerard •'-visited the other camps where com.plaints were infrequent. The British •were in excellent spirits, except where 'other nationalities were largely in ex- ' Cess. Kosher meat was provided for -Jews. Several complaints were made of ver.-nin and shortage of soap. Ger■f mans alleged that several British cut their boots and hid good uniforms to avoid being included in working parties.
