STANDARD TEST COWS.

It is opportune (says an Australian I writer") to summarise the results from j cows which finished their 273 days test under the Victorian Department of Agriculture's scheme-during the quarter ending March 31. Despite the unfavorable season and the scarcity of concentrates, satisfactory results iiave been achieved. Fifteen cows from Mr W. P. Brisbane's Gowrie Park herd of Ayrshires averaged 87791b of milk each, and 415Hb 01 butter-fat, though six of them were only ycung cows. The leading cow —Honey —comes from Gowrie Park. Her records are i2,C501b milk, test 4.41, butter-fat 0581b, or more than double the standard required by the test. Two other cows ;in this herd nrixhicecl over 5001b of butter-fat. Blossom's returns , were 10.6011b milk, test 4.94, 52301b butterfat : and Trixle trave 10.7251b milk. test 4.75. oOSib butter-fat. Among the .Jerseys. Mr Wood-mason's Melrose heerd has three cows, which finished during the quarter, and two out of tho three yielded over OT.b of butter-fat, Jessie VI., with 79241b milk, and a test of 6.71, oroduced 5321b butterfat: and Graceful Duchess VJIJ. yielded S7Gsib milk. 5.77 test. oOo^.b' but-ter-fat. The third cow was not far behind with 7577!b milk and 44-Uib butter-fat. The Werribee Experiment Farm's Red-poll herd had 10 representatives to finish, the average weight of milk from these being 55901b, yielding 3071b butter-fat. A Northern Jersey herd which has a very creditable performance is that of Mr J. D. Read, at Springhurst. Six Cows completed tkeir test, and averaged 57291b milk, and 3001b butter-fat. Among the young cows, a notable performance is that of Stella of Gowrie Park, whose figures are 93981b milk, 4.75' test 446.421b butter-fat. In the same herd is another young cow, Ivoline, with So64ib milk, a test of 4.84. and'4l42lb butter-fat. Altogether five Jersey herds, five Ayrshires and one Red-' poll herd were included in this quarter's returns.
