YESTERDAY'S DEPARTURES
Yesterday morning the following men selected for the Mounted Rifles extra reinforcements, left by mail train:— John S. Mortensen, Pungarehu; Will 1?™-^-- 01"1^ 11 ' New Plymouth; Hugh M. White;, Manaia; W. H. Mertyns, Ngaere; Rolf Cassie, Okato; Fred A Burgess, Okato; George D. Green, Okaiawa Eric C. Fortune, Hawera; G. R. Hardley. Hawera. They were given a send-off at the Hawera station, his Worship the Mayor (Mr E. Dixon) and the Rev. Grant Cowen referring to the splendid example these men were setting,, and the hope was expressed that they would safely return from the front at no distant date. Three ringing cheers were given for the departing troopers as the train steamed out.
