SHORTAGE OF SUGAR.

JAM FACTORY HOURS REDUCED

BY TELEGRAJ-ri—KtcKSS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, June 16. Owing to the difficulty of getting sufficient supplies of sugar, Thompson and Hills' jam factory, employing seventy hands, has had to close down for two days a week. The attention of Mr Philson, lacal manager of the Colonial Sugar Company, was directed to this and to the difficulty being encountered in Nelson by Kirkpatrick and Co. in the same respect. Mr Philson said he had no knowledge on the matter, and so far- as he knew jam factories were receiving sufficient sugar to keep going. He added that the company was unable to supply companies with sugar for speculative purposes.
