A London cable states that Sir Stanley Buckmaster, who was recently raised to the peerage on his appointment as Lord Chancellor, has taken the title of Baron Buckmaster of' Ahlgnot.
Mr David Cunningham, who has been, manager of Okain's Bay cheese factory for a number of years past, is leaving the district in a few weeks' time to~ take up the position of Government.

Mr Basil-Muter, who has iust died, aged 86 years, was one of the earliest, settlers m Canterbury, having arrived] there in 1851.
Trooper A. Diekensen, who is reported to have been killed at the Dardanelles, was, previous to enlistingwith the New Zealand Expeditionary «?& manager of the Hawera branch ot Gibsons Ltd. He was popular with all who knew him. Mrs A. S. Hollo- - way, of Ramanui, Hawera, is a sister - or deceased.
