PARTY GOVERNMENT.
THE SYSTEM CRITICISED.
BY TEMJGBAPH—PRESS ABSOOUTIOW. AUCKLAND, May 26. outspoken criticism of the nre-* sent system of Government was voiced by the provincial president of the New Zealand Farmers' Union (Man* D H l^ush) at the annual conference this arternoon.
Referring to political matters in connection with our Government and our representatives in Parliament,* 1 said Major Lush, "I desire to point out +£ in t ,our view '- and also in that of the public generally, the present situation, and outlook is not "a+. all satisfactory and that, as our conference has • repeatedly affirmed, the system ©f government by party is effete, object' tionable, and unsuitable to our circumstances, and a hindrance to our progress and prosperity, and should be re- • placed by a more truly representative and smooth-working arrangement, lhz® has lately been, most for, cibly brought to our notice- through bitter electoral disputes' and: scandals disclosed m our law courts."" This truth, added the speaker, had forced itsefr uoon the politicians of Great Britain, wfio had now Drac^eaHy atlbnted an elective executive. Let us then hope that our Parliamentary nolitical "ieaSers would at once follow their good example, and cease wrangling and select for three years their most able departmental managers as an executive, and settle down quietly to do their best for the country in this, its hour of trial. (Applause.)
