The Daily Mail's Rotterdam correspondent says the Germans are deepening trenches and widening the defensive works on the second and third lines, particularly at Lille. Since reinforcements, are impossible while the
German effcrt in Galicia continues, they may decide to fail back to the second line.
Bruges has already been evacuated, and food and ammunition stored at Ghent.
