WANTED
BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION
WELLINGTON, May 25. For the first time since the beginning of the war Ministers have felt it incumbent upon them to say that recruiting for the imantry is'not quite satisfactory. In a statement to the press Mr Allen points out that the one district that excelled itself is Wellington, wh.ch is wexl ahead of its quota. Auckland on May'lsth was short of its quota over 400 men, Canterbury was nearly 500, and Otago on the" same date 650 short. These figures may have improved since, but if not the dehcaency will have to be made up from Wellington. The position is now so urgent that marr.ed men should enlist if at all possible. The regulation regardinoheight will not be altered unless abso^ iuteiy necessary, but extra men are urgently wanted.
